All-Star teams are assembled after careful observation throughout the year by the divisional head coaches, assistant coaches, team helpers, and league leadership. Throughout the season, we play our Schoolcraft teams against each other as part of the process to observe player development and progression for a spot on the All-Star team. Areas of observation throughout the year include:
1. Player Attitude
2. Coachability
3. Respect for Authority
4. Being Team Oriented
5. Work Ethic
6. Ability
If the All-Star team is a goal for your player, be intentional and ask your regular season coaches how your player is doing and where they could improve throughout the season and put action to that feedback with your player outside of practices/games as the parent/guardian. In the event your child does not make the All-Star team and you feel strongly against the decision made, please remember that coaches and league leadership are volunteers that do our best. If you are not content with our best - consider becoming a volunteer coach or joining our volunteer league leadership to show us where improvement can be made.
All stars is a celebration of student athlete success and also a reward for athletes who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the little league season. As context for this section, please know that Coaches have struggled fielding teams for regular season games due to conflicts with travel teams in which LL games had to be canceled when the LL team roster went below minimums due to conflict and travel ball team prioritization.
This is unfortunate for all Schoolcraft Eagles, but especially for those who make LL their primary home for baseball or softball.
The Leadership Team/Board recognizes the value of travel ball participation and the complexity of managing schedules. We strive to be travel friendly. We are not anti-travel, we are not judging parental or athlete choice. We want to work with parents to ensure the health of their athletes as well as our programs. However, when we form teams, we form a commitment to each other that allows us to schedule and play games (and practices). Further, we are committing to other communities that our teams will play ball.
Therefore, the Leadership Team/Board is implementing a new All Star selection policy effective 2025 season; All Star rosters will prioritize those athletes who participate in at least 2/3 of regular season games. Those who play less than 2/3 of the games will be accommodated on All Star rosters only if there is additional roster space available. Regular season games do not include fun-for-all and similar tournaments. This policy is in addition to Little League International eligibility rules.
Above all, this policy aims to celebrate the athletes who are committed to our Schoolcraft Eagle LL. It also serves as an incentive for all our athletes to treat little league as a team season, not just an all-star tournament.
Lastly, the leadership team/board is eliminating the All-Star tryout in favor of season long evaluation by the Head Coaches (HC), Assistant Coaches (AC), and Team Helpers (TH).
All Star Team Selection Process (all divisions, both baseball/softball):
1. Players interested in making our All-Star Teams for LL tournament play shall complete an All-Star application form that will be issued mid-way through regular season.
-include any changes desired in jersey size from regular season jersey
-include top 3 choices of jersey number in order of preference
-be sure to have players (or parent/guardians) share their interest in All-Stars with your regular season head coach during the season
2. Coach Submissions: After the regular season, Head Coaches will submit a list of up to (12) All-Star candidates based on season performance and selection criteria. Coaches may also nominate up to two (2) additional clear selection players for further consideration.
Regular season head coaches interested in All-Star coaching roles (ex: Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Helpers) must inform the baseball (BB) and softball (SB) VPs.
3. Review and Evaluation: the Player Agent will compile coach submissions for review by league leadership. While some candidates may be clear selections, other might require further discussion. If necessary for undecided spots, a tryout or additional evaluation may be held. Players needing further evaluation will be notified of the date(s) and location(s) of tryout/further evaluation.
4. Coach Selections: SCLL League Leadership will select the All-Star coaching staff and notify those chosen.
5. Player Selection: The final All-Star team roster is determined jointly by SCLL Leadership, Regular Season Coaches, with input from the Player Agent. The selection committee strives for a fair and objective process.
6. Notification: Parents/guardians of selected players will be notified via email. This communication will include the selection results and next steps regarding tournament preparations, practice schedules, etc.
